There was a time when sneakers were simple. You wore them to play sport, you took them off when you came home, and nobody thought twice about it. That time is long gone.

Today, sneakers are one of the most powerful cultural symbols on the planet. They sit at the crossroads of sport, music, art and fashion. They can signal where you come from, what you believe in and who you want to be. A pair of shoes has never carried so much meaning — and the world has taken notice.

It started on the court

The story of the sneaker as a cultural object really begins in the 1980s, when a young basketball player from North Carolina signed a deal with a sportswear company and changed everything. Suddenly, shoes were not just equipment. They were a statement. Kids who had never picked up a basketball wanted a pair. Parents queued for hours. Stores sold out in days.

There is also the thrill of the hunt. Finding the right pair, in the right size, at the right time, takes knowledge, patience and dedication. That effort becomes part of the story of the shoe.

Sneakers as self-expression

Ask anyone with a serious collection why they do it and they will rarely talk about investment value or resale prices. They will talk about the way a particular pair makes them feel.
